Meet The Maker

 

Matthew Hardy is Newcastle born furniture designer/ maker producing bespoke fine furniture in Edinburgh, Scotland. Working on commissions with private clients and interior designers, Matthew produces hand-crafted custom pieces, from free-standing furniture to fitted kitchens. After studying furniture making at the Chippendale International School of Furniture in Scotland, Matthew began making full-time in 2024.

 

Matthew's work takes inspiration from modernist architecture and design to create furniture that emphasises functionality and simplicity of form. His furniture centres around the use of solid hardwoods; using a range of sustainably sourced timbers — selected to suit the character of each piece — whilst incorporating colour through the use of materials such as linoleum or recycled plastics.

 

Matthew is a member of the Scottish Furniture Maker's Association and his designs have been featured nationwide at exhibitions such as the New Furniture Makers Awards 2024 and the Craft Scotland HARVEST exhibition 2025.
